Hailing all the way from the United States, the returning DJ Cards has cemented his status even further as one of the great DJs in the global EDM circuit. The man has a unique ability for building architectures through music; creating anthems with intense energy, lying somewhere between soulful tunes and an electrifying ambiance. With the revelation that was his previous single called “Grab That Fall Feeling,” which made a strong impression on me, he is back with yet another release titled “We Rise (Stadium Hype Song)” and dated March 10th. Let’s talk about it
Right off the bat, the track explodes with the sound of cheering fans and the sound of a female voice telling everyone to raise their voices. This was like a hook that instantly drew me into the heart of the stadium. Before any beat of the music could even start playing, the opening already took me to where the action was, right into the middle of a bunch of excited people just waiting to yell themselves hoarse.
Essentially, what the song commands is unequivocal and uncompromising: rise. It calls to action without the slightest hint of subversion the moment that the sun sets below the horizon line. Although the track might seem to be the epic scene of a stadium filled with people cheering, there is an energy shift when the lyrics bring in the night, and instead of a raucous crowd, it becomes a strategic operation. The implication of stealth is palpable within the beats of the rhythm, and there seems to be no doubt in mind that the “action” called for is a covert act done in the cover of the night, each step taken methodically and each beat feeling like the heartbeats racing in the dark. This could either be interpreted literally as the anthem for a football match, or metaphorically as a song for an operation in the dead of the night, but the point behind the song is undeniably clear.
In essence, the song can be called a lesson in scale, as DJ Cards has made a classic example of an anthemic electronic dance music piece, which has been adorned with euphoric melodies and explosive drops that would make sense only on a big stage, like in a stadium or on a festival’s main stage. There seems to be something of a dichotomy between the two sides, as the very precise, well-structured tune reflects the lifestyle of a lawyer, while at the same time the very same person is a true music producer after sundown. Such a mindset allows the musician to become a rising star in melodic EDM because he knows the law both inside and out and on and off the dancefloor.
With a unique sound that successfully combines ethereal, atmospheric sounds with dynamic beats and catchy hooks, DJ Cards creates far more than music, he creates experiences. He creates music that captures a moment in time, music with a cinematic feel that would not be out of place on a movie scene or even in an international advertisement campaign. Given the consistency in which I have been able to follow him from his past projects, it is clear to me that he never misses, there is something about this artist that stands out with regards to his ability to create consistently. This song will definitely be my go to for the upcoming World Cup as I cheer for my country. Every time I see his name pop up somewhere, I am immediately intrigued and fascinated. This is one man whose musical skills are truly awe-inspiring.
