Greetings dearest gentle reader and music fans, let’s welcome US artist Skeletorus. Since Skeletorus is a solo project, all of the guitar, bass, percussion, and keyboard parts were composed and performed by Stephen Golovatenko. On 12 May, this artist released a video for his song “Mercury”. Let’s talk more about this song and it’s video
So when the song starts, you hear electric guitar sounds and then the smoke clears for you to see Skeletorus clearly with a guitar in his hand
After seeing Skeletorus kick ass and being in his element, it cuts between shots of him playing the guitar and shots of a planet in space, during this time the guitar sounds become gentler. The tempo of the guitar performance goes high at one point and low at other times. The rest of the video is zoomed-in and zoomed-out shots of Skeletorus playing the guitar with his talented fingers and shots of space pictures which go back and forth till the video ends with a beautiful sunrise shot. The track and its video are a progressive metal composition with art rock influences. The voyage moves slowly and plays with tension, creating and releasing it in waves to keep the listener interested all the way through.
This fantastic song hits a strong breakdown in the middle, and viewers get to see and feel what that looks like. Viewers also get to see and hear the part of the song where a fantastic guitar solo takes center stage and amplifies the intensity and complexity of the song. Synths take over as the song nears its conclusion, leading the audience to a last, satisfying release of tension, also another thing that was very satisfying to watch
Mercury” is more than just a song; it’s an experience with a dynamic framework and layered, rich sound that aims to provoke thinking and emotion. He released it as a music video to enhance the immersion experience even further and he achieved this feat. I am not surprised that he used planetary images because that is exactly how the song makes you feel. Since “Mercury” offers something different and incredibly captivating for the listener, I think it would be a fantastic addition to a playlist. Skeletorus is a fantastic artist and I can’t wait to hear more from him
