Bias? Sure, I’ll own it up front and get it out of the way, but how can anyone hold that against me considering the kind of talent we’re talking about here? British-born, singer-songwriter Zachary Mason is just one of those guys who knows how to hit any target that’s been laid out before him. He’s made it very clear through his entire career that he’s just leagues above everyone else. It doesn’t matter whether Zachary is winning us over with the timeless elegance of songs such as “Fathers” and “Sweet Girl,” inviting us into the embrace of the sweet romanticism of “Sweetheart” and his gorgeous Welcome To My Heart EP, or rocketing us to infinity through the psychedelic madness of “The Funky Martians” and the mind-blowing 5…4…3…2…1. EP – the guy is an absolute lesson in songwriting. But right when you think that you finally have figured out his limits, Zachary opens up yet another part of his soul and gives us yet another piece of his amazing talent. His new release, titled “Man Of The Universe,” dropped September 18th, and it is just as divine a masterpiece as we came to know his songs. Let’s take a look.
From the very first moment of the song, the music is enveloping you in a luxurious golden tapestry made up of the warmest guitar strings, which completely captivate you through their beauty. As the composition starts picking pace, a snappy drumbeat gets woven into the music, adding heart to the track and drawing you in like a fish on a line. It is an enticing introduction that leaves you captivated from the get-go.
From the story point of view, Zachary creates an incredible cinematic story by presenting a charismatic cosmo traveler jumping from one planet to another, doing all the noble things he does on each planet. He is not merely a cosmo traveler navigating his way through different planets; he is a true galactic icon who attracts people from all galaxies due to his heroic qualities and who is unbreakable in front of any intergalactic challenge just because he is the true man of the universe. This character definitely has the kind of unique confidence which can easily bring back memories of the most iconic space traveler of Marvel Universe, Peter Jason Quill, or rather Star-Lord from Guardians of the Galaxy.
“Man Of The Universe” is an incredibly head-spinning and electrifying combination of Space Rock, Psychedelic Rock, and Classic Rock. In order to actualize such a concept, Zachary partnered up with none other but a true legend of the production scene, Stuart Epps, whose work has shaped the history of the music industry in more ways than one, collaborating with artists such as Elton John, Oasis, George Harrison, and Led Zeppelin for more than 50 years. Yet Epps was not the only one behind the mixing desk on this album – he himself played the drums, bass, organ, and backing vocals on this track, which makes for an incredible sonic experience.
Storytelling is what makes me tick as an author, and I can confidently say that I haven’t had the opportunity to meet anyone else in the artistic community whose skill set can make him create such perfect stories and then present them in a way that is nothing short of breathtaking. Mason always shoots for the stars in everything he does, and the way in which he shoots for them is flawless, a standard that I can assure you that he will never let slip. I encourage each and every one of you to jump into the deep waters of Zachary Mason’s music and be forever transformed
