On July 20th, she blessed us with her latest piece of art, a stunning new single by the name of “I Prefer Jason,” and as a person who has had the pleasure of watching her artistic mind work right from the start, I couldn’t be more excited to take your hand and lead you through every beautiful moment of it together, as you are going to get changed.

From the first moment you hear “I Prefer Jason,” it takes you into its arms through an absolutely wonderful and luminous melody combined with a poetic spoken-word introduction that does not sound like the start of the song at all, but rather like a late-night revelation told in whispers. The thing that makes this introduction so absolutely fascinating is the way it takes no prisoners – without any slow starts, it goes directly to the point and throws you right into the middle of Katie’s stunning vocal performance.

The lyrics center around an extreme and deliciously dramatic celebrity wedding that plunges you straight into the whirlwind of fame, cameras, and romance, in which all eyes are glued to the most spectacular happening of the decade, until Katie gets bored of the whole thing and finds herself obsessively fascinated with Jason. And, of course, in case you were living under a rock, you must be well aware of the pop culture shock of the year: the proposal of America’s favorite football player, Travis Kelce, to its superstar and billionaire Taylor Swift following a romantic whirlwind. Everyone saw Travis bring his charming brother, Jason, onto Saturday Night Live, commiserate about the funny podcast where they discuss game days and family feuds, and watch Jason give up the jersey while Travis carried on the Kelce family name in the arena. Yet, Katie takes all of that paparazzi-ready excitement and flips it inside out using satire so well done. The result is a dry, theatrical, funny, and visually compelling experience led by witty melodic rap storytelling and an overly dramatic sense of humor. She’ll compliment Travis, gush about his beautiful new wife, and even count his Super Bowl rings, only to give us a wink through the speakers and let us know how much better her choice, Jason, was of the two brothers.

Once you strip away the surface elements of the song, you get a true sense of just how expansively creative Katie’s musical world is. Pause for a second, however, for while Katie’s vocals were captivating and very interesting. It is Katie Noir who is the real genius behind this pop culture parody!. The way Katie blew “I Prefer Jason” away with her brilliant sense of humor and innovation is simply beyond anything, and to be quite honest, whether I’m indulging Katie’s witty commentary about pop culture, I’m sitting at the edge of my seat for more music from her.
