The actor discussed his experience during Taylor Swift’s July Eras Tour stop in Kansas City, Missouri, when he performed backflips down the catwalk following the pop sensation’s premiere of her “I Can See You” music video, in which he co-stars, in a recent interview on The Tonight Show. Lautner and Swift, who acted as a couple in the 2010 film Valentine’s Day and dated during its filming the year before, made a public comeback at the Arrowhead Stadium event. The Twilight actress was obviously nervous
“I do this weird thing, and it doesn’t make sense so forgive me, when I freak out and I’m really nervous and I black out, I just go straight to backflip,” said Lautner, 31, recalling the thought process that led him to go full gymnast during the show — a reference to the tumbling his character did in Valentine’s Day.
As I walked out of this entrance, I noticed this boardwalk, which led about sixty yards across the field. And I think to myself, “Do I have to walk all the way down this? “This is going to be really awkward,” Lautner said to Jimmy Fallon, the host. “And I was like, ‘Just backflip, and I’ll take up the space, and it’ll be over.'” He also talked about the first time Swift, 33, contacted him to be in the music video for “I Can See You,” which was one of the re-recorded album’s “From the Vault” tracks that was released earlier this year on Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).
