Just drop all that you are doing and make your schedule free, as it is high time to once again welcome into our virtual domain that one and only one person who is Stephen H. Cumberbatch, better known as the legendary C’batch, to all his most ardent followers. It really does seem to be nothing but a complete travesty of justice to call such a creative genius just an “artist,” especially when his truly transcendental, genre-defying collection of musical work seems to have acted as the very emotional and tonal background of our lives. Even in this day and age, our hearts remain completely enthralled with the spiritual transcendence of “Song for God” and the raw, unadulterated catharsis of “Trapped (I’m Doing Fine),” as well as the visual magnificence of the worlds that he has brought alive through the Next Time (I Won’t Be Falling) EP, the kaleidoscopic metamorphosis of C’batch The Vault 2 (Soul/RNB/Pop/Rock/Reggae), the captivating smooth-and-rough dichotomy of The Vault 1 (C’batch Smooth / Rough), and hypnotic tracks like “Next Time (I won’t be falling/ you’ve got me falling)” as well as the visual magnificence of The Vault 4- Cinematic. Nevertheless, in typical fashion, he never ceases to amaze us, as can be seen through his stunning upcoming release that I will have the pleasure of discussing today, which was released on the 29th of August and carries the evocative title “Our Little Pooh Pea (The Last Light) 4 – Cinematic.” Let’s get started.
Right from the opening second, the music track unfolds into a sensuous, stunningly beautiful melody that will instantly ensnare you. The superb and highly thought-out orchestration of the instruments not only makes you feel welcome but also gives you an advance notice. You get a clear indication that this music track will definitely be in the hands of a master, and you will need to raise your expectations as high as possible.
It is precisely the incredibly intimate and almost mystical way in which this track was created that makes this record stand out from all others in his catalog. The whole essence of this track revolves around an amazing C’batch guitar solo that was recorded over another song I composed, entitled “Round & Round.” Upon hearing this earlier recording, Stephen heard something amazing in his visionary ears and realized that it could not possibly stay confined within its context alone. Using his incredible expertise, he has reimagined the track in such a way that he surrounded the original guitar solo with a brand new production style incorporating cinematic flair and electronic atmosphere.
The end result is simply an awe-inspiring and dreamy instrumental piece that floats seamlessly between the genres of Electronic, Dream Pop, Ambient, and Experimental music. “The Last Light” evokes that precise, tenuous yet beautiful moment where one transitions from darkness to hope, with plenty of open spaces left intentionally blank for you to enter into and inscribe your very own story.
Not only that, but it isn’t even just another regular drop – it’s a jaw-dropping example of how artistry and magic can come together in perfect form, proof positive of the power of reimagining a musical performance into something completely new. At this juncture, it becomes impossible not to stop and ask yourself that age-old question: what on Earth can’t C’batch do? Whether he’s guiding a vocal-driven anthem or an instrument-driven masterpiece like this one, everything he creates reaches down to your very soul with unparalleled precision. It makes me proud and excited to always and forever remain a devoted fan of his music.
