Greetings dearest readers and music lovers welcome to our blog the band The Transference. Laura Hollingsworth, a singer/songwriter and pianist, formed The Transference, an indie rock/power pop band based in Chicago. The other members of the band Andrea Santiago and lead guitarist Justin Wheeler deliver beautiful harmonies that establish the band’s powerful sound. Laura’s emotive words and direct approach are layered over pop-rock rhythms by drummer Alex Karan and MJ Johnson’s powerful bass. This band has released an EP called “100 Mirrors”. This 6-song EP was released on 8th March. Let’s talk more about this EP
The first song on the EP is called “Aliens”. The song begins with very smooth synth sounds that are very enticing. When a drum beat is added to this sound you get a very lovely sound about an individual who has encountered something strange which carried her away (“I feel them coming in the night to carry me away”). The character later comes to find out that the creatures that came for her earlier are in fact aliens and it’s her words that kept her safe(”I told you there were aliens and you just stared”). The sound is buzzing and bounces through your ear from left to right, on and on. This song welcomes you to the album in a very spectacular way
Next is the song “Premonitions”. The song’s opening is a beautiful mouth percussion with a heavy and exciting drum beat. The song is about a person who has strong feelings about certain things(”he saw it again”). The song is wonderful and has a really rich and magnificent electric guitar solo that will stimulate you as you enjoy the song as well
“Holy Smoke” is the title of the next song. The song has the most spectacular mouth percussionist I’ve ever heard. The song is about a somewhat broken relationship (” I don’t know why you call me a liar instead of building a home”). The song is a metaphor about this broken relationship(”the problem was never about the fire, it was always your holy smoke”)and the artist takes us on this musical trip with her
Next is the song “Afterglow” A drum beat is at the forefront of this song’s intro. The song is about a character who was afraid of the complete darkness but has been able to overcome that anxiousness and fear(” You turn the lights off before you go but I still catch the afterglow”). The story in the song shows the personal growth of the persona from a person who cowered in the dark but is now able to face it. The mouth percussions in the song are very catchy and before you know it you will singing along to this song and dancing along too
The song that follows is called “Event Horizon”. The song’s intro is a very interesting and lovely bass foundation which the rest of the song rests upon The song is about a relationship where one person feels lonely although they are in a relationship and doesn’t know how the relationship is at the moment. She can’t tell if they’re in a good or bad place (”I’m so lonely all I see is black, I can’t feel the speed we’re moving at”). There is a guitar solo in this song you should really look forward to because it’s insanely good. The song is great and will be very exciting to hear live!
The next song is called “American Lawns”. With this song, the album slows down a bit. The intro is a fusion of guitar and drum sounds. This country-infused song is about a character who was born and raised in a small town, one with freshly mowed lawns and Pickett fences. The character feels trapped in her neighborhood and believes that when she leaves her little cul-de-sac she can make a real difference. This country-infused song is very beautiful and the character’s predicament is similar to that of Belle’s from Beauty and the Beast. This song closes out this amazing collection of songs.
This EP was everything I expected and more. The sounds were very rich in nature, each song had a compelling story and they were very captivating. There was never a dull moment listening to this EP and I implore you to take a listen to enjoy the rich tapestry that this EP has to offer and experience The Transference’s massive talent
