Greetings dearest gentle readers and music lovers let’s welcome LA artist Julia Kate. Kate is a 20-year-old singer/songwriter from Sherman Oaks, California. She is, in fact, a valley girl. Julia is presently pursuing a degree in professional music and songwriting at Boston, Massachusetts’ Berklee College of Music. On 24th January, she released a single called “Fake Friends”. Let’s dive into the details of the song
The intro is a great fusion of bass and drum beats. It is very snazzy and very cool. Immediately the beat drops, you start vibing to it
This song is about a character who has finally realized that her friend is fake. Aside from saying things behind her back,(” it’s all the shit you talk, talk”), this person ignores her friend’s show, saying she wasn’t invited. Having fake friends is something that most people have gone through. (” You can go”)The kind of friends who only be nice to you when other people are around just to look like a good person (“all I know is fake friends make me feel so alone”).
The idea behind “Fake Friends” was to combine the vitality of 2025 lyrics with the fire of the 1980s female New Wave. This song reminds me of the encounter between Deborah Harry and Chappell Roan (via Julia Kate)! But I also get a little Olivia Rodrigo from her performance and altogether we also get what style she was going for in the song perfectly
This song was so amazing. Julia is obviously a star, just from her voice and the way it drawls so deep is very very beautiful. She knocked this song out of the park. Through this song, we know that Julia is standing on business!
