At the center was Klum in a cobalt blue bodysuit. The America’s Got Talent judge wore an elaborate headpiece with a finely crafted beak.

Klum spoke exclusively to PEOPLE on the red carpet about her inspiration for this year’s costume.

“I wanted to do a costume with many, many people. I wanted to have a bunch of people and we all become one thing. And for me, in my mind, that one thing was the peacock,” she says.

She tells PEOPLE, “My feet are a different pattern so my feet melt into his legs,” adding that the colours of her outfit depended on where her feet were placed. Tom Kaulitz, Klum’s husband, appeared as an egg on the carpet.

Klum is well-known for going to spectacular measures for the occasion, such as learning how to walk on stilts and spending hours wearing prostheses. Klum used to do her own hair and cosmetics, but now she has aid from a team. Among many other famous costumes, Klum has dressed as a cadaver, an elderly woman, and Princess Fiona from Shrek in the past.
