THE GENERATION RISES FROM THE ASHES WITH “WHEN I TELL YOU”

They burst through the mid-80s D.C. underground scene like a match lit in the midst of a hurricane, quick, intense, and extinguished before the smoke could even settle. For years, the myth of The Generation survived only in the fading memories of those bodies packed into steaming clubs, as they were ghosts to anyone else. No recordings, no hidden albums, just raw magic trapped on the wax. Not anymore.

Discovered in an abandoned London attic nearly thirty years later, these songs have been painstakingly retrieved directly from their original, holy analog tapes and resurrected into vivid, bleeding life. And on the 20th of August, the stillness was shattered by the release of “When I Tell You,” and let me say, if you’ve been a fan of theirs in the shadows for a good fifty years or if you are just lucky enough to come under their influence now, there is nothing that can have prepared you for how utterly spine-tingling it was to hear them play once more. Get closer, because I have a tale to tell about this song.

The second the song falls, there’s not a single doubt left; there’s just an onslaught of sound, sheer instrumental force, which comes straight to your heart and rewrites the room. This isn’t a timid, nostalgic statement of the band’s intentions; they’re here to remind people of the true, untamed power of music. You’ll realize from the first second that you’re dealing with something greater than yourself; you will feel in your bones that the world is going to be shaken like never before.

Underneath it all, behind the roar of the thunderous chords is the story of utter tenderness. In fact, the song places the listener directly in the middle of the most memorable morning of someone’s life, his wedding day. One can almost feel the electricity in the air, the nervous excitement, and the sense of sheer awesomeness of finally being able to take the person he loves to spend the rest of eternity with. In the midst of all this emotion, he pauses for a minute to look her in the eye. It is no simple vow or empty words; it is a serious commitment, and an anchoring one at that. In the moment when he whispers to her that he loves her, the entire room falls silent with the sound of his love reverberating across it even after the chords have ended.

These tracks have been lying in a London attic for more than 30 years. Here’s the single to precede the “Songs From Our Upbringing” LP release later in 2026 / early 2027. The single will be featured in all digital versions, and pre-ordering for the 7″ vinyl version will be launched in September. The mastering process was carried out by Geoff Pesche in Abbey Road Studios. Unique, melodious, and guitar-oriented songs that will surely appeal to fans of rock music.

It’s one of the most ingenious switches ever. With the kind of instrumentation at their disposal, you think there’s no stopping them from tearing off the roof and leaving nothing behind, which only makes the abrupt and overwhelming realization of that gargantuan heart of a love song all the more spectacular. The combination of those two things- the brutal and unflinching power combined with the heartbreakingly romantic. is just magical. They’ve been playing non-stop for the sheer pleasure of it, of rocking out to music that’s this good, and has this much soul. Thirty years of a masterpiece hidden away in some London attic, and to think that we spent all this time without it is absolutely criminal, but now that they’re back, I’ll be front and center for anything they dish out next. If that’s what resurrection sounds like, I’ll take the whole damned album.
