Greetings dearest readers and music fans, lets welcome American artist Catlea to our digital space. Catlea didn’t come empty though, she came bearing a gift in the form of a 4 song EP. The title of this EP is called “Bones” which was released on 31st October
The EP’s title track is the EP’s namesake “Bones”. The song opens with unique guitar and drum sounds before Catlea starts to sing. The main theme of the song is repressing pain. Here is the character of the song who blatantly expresses how she never got over the pain of her breakup but just shoved those feelings that she calls bones into her closet (”I didn’t get over you, just got over talking about it, just locked those bones in my closet”). Mind you, the song is not glorifying repression, it just informs listeners that sometimes people do this to enable themselves to fall into a pit of depression that cannot climb out of, essentially ruining their lives, a truth the song sheds light on, hopefully, to resonate with people who do this and make them feel seen and possibly ask for help. Catlea has a clear and powerful voice that will excite you and the instrumentation. Insanely perfect. You will be itching to hear the rest of the songs on the EP just because of this track
The next track is called “Crumbling”. The song with bold, bright, and operatic piano sounds, and when Catlea starts to sing?? You will be frozen in time, wanting to hear this voice on repeat. This song is about a toxic relationship. In such relationships, the guy likes to treat you like you’re the only person in the world but there’s a shift and with that shift, the guy treats you so very badly, some take the extremely violent route by physically abusing the victim, but in the case of the character of this song, the perpetrator, uses verbal abuse which is in someway even worse than the physical abuse, because there is no physical wound to treat. Catlea sounds so majestic and the tempo of the song picks up and sounds desperate when she sings about getting out of that place
Up is the song “Lying”. The song opens with some very beautiful C upbeat guitar melody. The song illustrates a character who is in a relationship she wants to get out because she is unhappy. She wishes she had cheated on him or had some sort of secret which will really upset him when he finds out so that she can finally be free of him. This song shows the complexities of relationships and how to navigate them. The guitar work on this song is very impressive and very upbeat and adds a kick to Catlea’s fierce voice
The last song on the EP is called “Like Me”. The intro of this is soft and dreamy. The song talks about a character who is different especially how she perceives things and her reaction and asks if we feel the same. This character tries to explain her point of you and feels that people think that she likes to get attention which is not like that at all. Although we are different people, some groups of people feel superior and this is evident with autistic people or people who live on the spectrum. Catlea sounds so angelic especially when the mouth percussionist joins in. However, a beat joins in, making the song more dramatic. There is an amazing guitar solo and a very hopeful ending when she asks people in this situation to hold on What a beautiful song! This grand song ends the EP
This EP is breathtaking, Catlea’s voice is phenomenal and versatile, and she can adapt to any musical challenge, thrown in her direction. The instrumentation too was top-tier. Catlea should be proud of this EP because she knocked it right out of the park with this one. She has an amazing voice and I can’t wait to hear more of her songs
