In today’s world, the one standing out as the highlight of the day would be the virtual idol group known as Constell8tion. It is an innovative band that has bridged the gap between sophisticated technology and human emotions. These idols are much more than just a set of computer graphics. Then here comes Jiahao, the rebel supernova of Constell8tion, an artist that is taking a brave leap out of the sterile glow and into the rough and gritty world of human emotions. In his first solo track, “This Was Us,” Jiahao leaves behind the perfectionist world of virtual idols and dives into the rebellious spirit of early 2000s pop-punk music. I am absolutely thrilled to present the emotive two-song EP by these two amazing artists titled “This Was Us”. This EP seems to have an emotional message hidden within its two tracks. Let us turn down the lights and begin.
“This Was Us” is how the EP begins, a song whose first and foremost characteristic is the high-energy beat with which it welcomes the listener, with the purpose of capturing your soul. And yet, under its vibrant surface, it describes a relationship which served not only as a haven but also as a bonfire. The lyrics follow the heart-wrenching process of gradually losing one’s love, that frenzied, empty sensation of trying to grasp an individual who has long escaped their reach. The EP captures an overwhelming love story filled with passion, which ultimately became self-consuming. The reason why this song resonates with us so much is that it is brutally honest about the true reality of farewells. Rather than falling back on the Hollywood trope of an elaborate, rainy farewell scene, it manages to perfectly capture the bitter feeling of awkwardness that follows any real-life parting, the few moments that will soon become lost in silence and will hurt much more than anything ever could have. This song features the artist Jiahao. On an instrumental and musical level, it is a beautiful blend of passionate singing and orchestral instrumentation which creates cinematic tension.
Finishing off the EP is the “Extended Version” of “This Was Us,” an entirely new arrangement of the song, with a special performance by guest artist Jiahao. With the very opening notes, we are immediately drawn into a dark and rebellious punk sound that compels us into action. However, what is truly amazing about this new version is the way in which the human elements begin to interact with the basic rock sounds. Though the theme of the song stays focused on the same heartbreaking love story, this time around, it takes its cues from a different style altogether. The harmonies are built up in layers for an awe-inspiring chorus that makes your heart soar in all the best ways possible. But then there’s also that amazing guitar solo at the end, an incredible electric riff that slices through the entire track like lightning striking out of the blue sky. There really isn’t a better way for the song to build towards its crescendo than this!
It seems there is just something electrically charged about the way in which this EP has embraced the punk rebellion spirit, it still embodies the same sort of high-voltage experimental creativity that has become such a hallmark of Stray Kids music, but in a much darker and much more sophisticated vein. It has been exciting to witness your own musical boundaries expanding with this EP; there seems to be something magical about the way in which technology blends seamlessly with the raw and edgy nature of rock music. Your passion and creative prowess have already made it clear that this has only just started for you, and the “supernova” attitude that loop you bring to your music inspires anticipation for what is yet to come.
