2022 always promised to be a turning point year for Stockholm-based talent. She is a young, gifted standout who has made her way, step by step, towards independent artistry. A new phase of studio material begins for 2022 with the one clearest images of her very personal and incredibly accessible pop prowess. Her 2021 debut EP songs “The Idea of Me” and “Self Love Therapy” appeared on Netflix’s The Bold Type.
Together with eminent Swedish author/producer Jörgen Elofsson, “Neighborhood” explores the sombre and private character of a breakup and the geographic divisions that accompany it. This deep and quiet offering, which is disguised as her rich and personal lyricism, combines enormous production elements with her distinctive flair for making pop music with both pulse and meaning.
According to Maja, the song is about the “point of no return” that follows a breakup. “You’ve created this world together in these comfortable spaces – the small locations where you have so many memories – and then, overnight, they are forbidden because they were your shared locations.
Maja has used the past two years of uncertainty as uncanny fuel for her own career dreams, with a variety of new material scheduled for release later in the year. Her ability to collaborate with some of the most sought-after producers and writers between Sweden and Los Angeles now that she is entirely autonomous indicates the heights and hype around this budding pop export and her potential for the global stage.
She reflects, “I assume everyone was in the same boat during the pandemic. Plans went awry, forcing everyone to change course and discover new methods to proceed. And as a result, I believe that many of us are now stronger and more certain of our goals than we were before. Being able to engage with people while writing songs in Los Angeles makes me very pleased. My objective has always been to finish my debut album, and I believe that this momentum will help me get there in the upcoming year.
