Many of the notes appeared to reference both the Friends theme song, “I’ll Be There For You” by The Rembrandts, and the show’s episode title style, which prefaced each installment with the phrase, “The One Where/With…”

“The One Where We all Lost a Friend,” read some signs. Another heartbreaking offering read, “We are so sorry no one was there for you. You are so loved and will be missed for generations. Thank you for being our friend.”

On Saturday, October 28, Perry passed away. 54 was his age. After speaking with law enforcement, TMZ reported that the Friends star was discovered deceased at his Los Angeles, California, home. He was in his hot tub, according to the Los Angeles Times. In remembrance of Perry, fans brought flowers, messages, and mementos to his L.A. residence.

Perry, in his own words, had previously shared his hopes for his legacy following his passing. In November 2022, while marketing his biography Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, he stated, “I would like to be remembered as somebody who lived well, loved well, and was a seeker.” Perry talked openly about his years of substance usage and addiction struggles, as well as his time on Friends, in the book.

Perry is survived by his mother, Suzanne Marie Morrison, and his father, John Bennett Perry.
