Live-action teaser for Avatar: The Last Airbender features Appa, the release date, and more.

Finally, during this week’s virtual Geeked Week event, Netflix unveiled the first trailer for its live-action version of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Not only does the big reveal reveal the first glimpse of further characters transitioning from animation, but it also confirms the much anticipated release date of February 22.

The trailer now features Appa, the adorable but enormous air bison and the Avatar’s dependable flying mount. This follows the announcements for the live-action roles of Aang (Gordon Cormier), Katara (Kiawentiio), Sokka (Ian Ousley), Prince Zuko (Dallas James Liu), Fire Lord Ozai (Daniel Dae Kim), Uncle Iroh (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee), Princess Azula (Elizabeth Yu), Commander Zhao (Ken Leung), and Uncle Iroh (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee Aang’s other animal friend Momo, Suki (Maria Zhang), and the Kyoshi Warriors are also seen in the newly released trailer.

The show is set in a medieval fantasy world full of benders, those who can manipulate one of the elements: earth, air, fire, and water. The Avatar, a reincarnated being with a mastery of all four elements, maintains peace and balance in the world. But the latest reincarnation, the young airbender named Aang, emerges at a time when Fire Lord Ozai used his armies to wipe out the Air Nomads and is deep into a campaign for world domination. Now Aang, with the help of his friends, must set out to master all the elements and become strong enough to restore balance.
